A bazaar weekend is anticipated and the Second Saturday Art Walk from 3 to 6 p.m. Nov. 11 will be no exception — with one venue having its own Art Bazaar.
Forecastle Books and Gallery at 553 Chetco Ave. will gather a large selection of art creations by artists who have previously displayed their works. Visitors can stop by to view art and “Give the Gift of Local Art” during the holiday season.
The bookstore will serve smoked tuna, wine and coffee. For more information, call 541-813-2665.
The “Give the Gift of Local Art” is being promoted by Pelican Bay Arts Association at its venue, Manley Art Center at 433 Oak St. A reception during the Art Walk will include sweet and savory food and wine.
The featured artist for the month is Zoe West. Her paintings are from her Life Form series, which she describes as “organic abstract, representing thoughts, emotions, motives and ideas at the molecular level. The intangible working of our mind and inner being, rendered in colorful probabilities.”
Local art historian Pete Chasar will interview West at 3:30 p.m. Guests can meet and talk with the artist in the gallery and watch the Mudslingers prepare their ceramic masterpieces in the classroom. The pottery group will be featured in December.
The rest of the exhibit includes a variety of art created by association members. For more information about the association and its programs, visit manleyartcenter.com or call 541-469-1807.
Brian Scott Gallery features acrylic and mixed media artist Mary Whitaker during the month. She will be on hand to meet and greet and will be interviewed at 4:30 p.m.
Having traveled the world and capturing many photographs, Whitaker was encouraged by her cousin to pursue a career in photography, art or both. She chose art and took many classes in watercolor and acrylic paint, signing up for several online abstract painting courses with Fiona Godfrey. She fell in love with abstract art, continued to learn new techniques and mediums and has shared all the new techniques with others.
"I'm most excited about color, how different colors look next to each other, while adding texture, shapes and lines,” Whitaker said. “It makes me happy.”
Music will be presented by Don Beckner. Refreshments will be served. The gallery is at 515 Chetco Ave. Refreshments will be served. The gallery offers three floors of art displays of several artist and includes Signatures, a gallery within the gallery, on the main floor. For more information about the galleries, visit brianscottgallery.com or call 541-412-8687.
At Whimsical Griffin, shop owner Vincent Chiantelli displays space art and celebrity portraiture as well as a collection of 8-bit tile art by David Christie, also known as “The Working Mouse.”
Whimsical Griffin is at 615 Chetco Ave. For information, visit whimsicalgriffin.com or call 949-672-8645.
