Manley Art Center announces the opening reception for the September Art Exhibit, held Saturday, September 9, 2023, from 3 to 6 PM at The Manley Art Center, located at 433 Oak Street in Brookings, Oregon.
The exhibit, on display from September 5th through September 30th, features the photography of Magdalena Huybreghs. Born and raised in Leuven, Belgium, Magdalena, and her four siblings grew up in an environment where nature and adventurous travel through Europe played a big role in their lives. Her father was an environmental activist, a nature guide, and an amateur photographer. Years later, these seeds sewn in her childhood would start to blossom. "Looking back I now realize how my father's love for nature and his camera seeped into my very being."
The journey to becoming a photographer started at the Daytona Beach Community College, Florida, where she took a black and white photography course. From that launching point, Magdalena became an active photographer whose work was featured in shows throughout central Florida, and in following years Magdalena spent many long summers traveling and photographing in Southern France.
Magdalena shares, “By photographing a slice of real life, I hope my images will stoke someone's memory. But above all, it is capturing humanity that appeals to me most. It is an adventure and a lifelong voyage to convey my passion through my photography.”
The rest of the exhibit features a variety of art created by the Manley Art Center members. Proceeds from the sale of artwork are shared between the artists and the Manley Art Center. The Manley uses its portion to further its mission to promote, through education, the appreciation, distribution, and enjoyment of fine arts and crafts.
