Manley Art Center announces the opening reception for the June Art Exhibit, held Saturday, June 10th, 2023, from 3 to 6 PM at The Manley Art Center, located at 433 Oak Street in Brookings, Oregon.
The exhibit, on display from June 6th through July 1st, features a collaborative body of work by David and Sharon Guy; photographer and visual artist. This exhibit is an attempt to create a conceptualized installation of 47 years of shared experiences. Such ruminations on violence, religion, family, climate change, and love are embodied in individual displays of signs and symbols.
David Guy earned a degree at Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara after growing up in Colorado Springs and completing his tour with the Army. He has had a variety of photographic experiences in the commercial industry, as well as in commercial photographic labs. His current photographic interests are wildlife and nature. Sharon Guy grew up in San Diego. Upon marrying David Guy, and raising a family; she completed her MFA at the age of 42, attending the University of Illinois in Chicago.
Both artists have lived extensively in Southeast Asia teaching English as a second language, then continued their travels volunteering with the Peace Corps in Ethiopia, returning to Chicago in 1996. Although now semi-retired, engaging in the visual arts still remains a priority, it continuously enriches their lives.
In addition to the Ruminations Exhibit winner from the Azalea Festival Art Show and Sale will be on display. The Azalea Festival Art Show and Sale is a community art event with artists of all ages and skill levels participating. The show and art sale includes painting, collage, pottery, sculpture, drawing, jewelry, photography, digital art, and more. Manley Art Center, home of Pelican Bay Arts Association, has sponsored an art show in conjunction with the Azalea Festival since 1956.
