SYNERGY AND SERENITY A PETE CHASAR ART EXHIBIT OPENING RECEPTION

Manley Art Center announces the opening reception for the November Art Exhibit, held Saturday, November 12th, 2022 from 3 to 6 PM at The Manley Art Center, located at 433 Oak Street in Brookings, Oregon.

The exhibit, on display from November 7th through December 3rd, features the synergistic and serene work of Pete Chasar. Pete is both a painter and sculptor who grew up, went to school, and then spent an early career in advertising on the East Coast. His formal art training includes four years of high school art and art history in college, and he often visited the works of old and modern masters at New York's major museums. Aside from these early studies, he is self-taught.

Pete paints in a style that he calls “graphic realism.” His art has been displayed at shows from Grand Rapids, Michigan (ArtPrize) to Sacramento, California, Reno, Nevada, and Vancouver, Washington, as well as in galleries throughout Southern Oregon and Northern California.

Pete is both a hiker and preservationist, who mostly paints outdoor scenes that impact him emotionally, though he also creates abstracts and still life scenes, as well as geometrical sculptures. Pete’s website—chasar.com—has links to his paintings, sculptures, and a book about his Arizona adventures and preservation work.

The rest of the exhibit will be filled out with a variety of art created by the Manley Art Center members. Proceeds from the sale of artwork are shared between the artists and the Manley Art Center. The Manley uses its portion to further its mission to promote, through education, the appreciation, distribution, and enjoyment of fine arts and crafts.

Sergio's wife Jackie related that she had a crush on Sergio in high school, but they went separate ways. After Sergio's career in the jewelry business, first on Rodeo Drive and later in Florida, Sergio and Jackie met again on Facebook and have now been happily together for more than a decade. They have been Brookings' residents since 2018.

Art Walk founder Horst Wolf takes a close look at the artwork of Sergio Baril at Manley Art Center. Sergio's paintings are a riot of imaginative free form images, bright colors and found objects from his large collection of fossils, rocks, driftwood, shells and other items he finds while hiking.

Winners of this summer's Art at the Port Exhibition are on display at Manley Art Center during the month of October.
Art at the Port is co-sponsored by The Port of Brookings Harbor (providing the venue) and Pelican Bay Arts Association (curator for the show) and is supported by Curry County Cultural Coalition and Oregon Cultural Trust. Local organizations who provide awards include Fred Meyer, Curry Equipment Co., Oregon South Coast Fishermen, Manley Art Center and the Brookings Harbor Port Commissioners.

Les talked about his technique for applying pastel and revealed that his fresh color is achieved by using only glass to protect the pigment - no spray fixative. You can see a large selection of Les' seascapes at Brian Scott Gallery.
