Center announces the opening reception for the October Art Exhibit, held Saturday, October 8th, 2022 from 3 to 6 PM at The Manley Art Center, located at 433 Oak Street in Brookings, Oregon.
The exhibit, on display from October 4th through November 3rd, features the colorful, imaginative creations by Sergio Baril. Sergio is a self-taught multi-media "outsider" artist with a huge appreciation for nature. As an active collector of fossils, rocks, driftwood, shells, etc found on hikes and long walks on beaches, lakes, and river banks, Sergio is always looking for different shapes and forms in his finds that inspire his imagination. Bright colors also play a big part in his work. These colors bring happiness and comfort to his soul. Sergio's free-form creation style allows his imagination to fly, creating pieces that reflect his state of mind at that particular moment.
Sergio has a BA in Business Administration and dedicated forty-six years to the jewelry industry. He served as President of Fred Joaillier USA, on Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills, California, a subsidiary of Fred Joaillier Paris, a French-headquartered company with several stores throughout the United States. In 2001 Sergio moved to Sarasota, Florida, and created his own business Mariposa Designs LLC. He ran that business up to 2018 when he retired and moved to Brookings with my beautiful wife Jackie, three dogs, two cats, and a horse.
Also during October, Manley Art Center will display the ART at the PORT award-winning paintings. More than seventy paintings were displayed on the Boardwalk fence from May through the first week of September. People’s Choice ballots selected the winners, and five local sponsors each chose their favorite for an award.
The rest of the exhibit will be filled out with a variety of art created by the Manley Art Center members. Proceeds from the sale of artwork are shared between the artists and the Manley Art Center. The Manley uses its portion to further its mission to promote, through education, the appreciation, distribution, and enjoyment of fine arts and crafts.
