Manley Art Center announces the opening reception for the April Art Exhibit, Layers, held Saturday, April 9th, 2022 from 3 to 5 PM at The Manley Art Center, located at 433 Oak Street in Brookings, Oregon.
The exhibit, on display April 4th through April 30th, features Fiber Artist, Patty Nance. Patty is an avid knitter
who lives on the Southern Oregon Coast with her husband, two motorcycles, and lots of yarn. She teaches
classes, designs hand-knits, and publishes patterns when she’s not knitting. Her book Bargello Knits (Bargello
Knitworks, 2018) introduces her bargello knitting technique with an in-depth tutorial and 28 designs. Her work
has appeared in Vogue Knitting, Noro Knitting Magazine, Knitter’s Magazine, Knit Simple Magazine, Prism Arts,
Knit Noro Accessories (Sixth & Spring Books, 2012), and with several yarn companies including Louet North
America, Universal Yarn, Cascade Yarns, and Red Heart Yarns. Her patterns are available at pattysknits.com,
LoveCrafts.com, and Ravelry.com (username: PattyKnits).
“It’s no surprise that I knit, and knit, and knit,” states Patty. “As a little girl in a confusing world that moved too
quickly for me to understand, I found comfort in the small sitting room where Aunt Frances lived. Watching her
hands move with the steady clicking of knitting needles seemed to stop the world in its tracks as it spun out of
control elsewhere. I could stay there for hours, and many times I did. I was five years old when she first put
needles and yarn in my hands.”
The rest of the exhibit will be filled out by a variety of art created by the Manley Art Center members. Each
month Manley Art Center displays a new collection of members' artwork. Artwork in the gallery is changed out
on the first Monday of every month, all Art Center members are welcome to participate. Proceeds from the
sale of artwork are shared between the artists and the Manley Art Center. The Manley uses their portion to
further their mission to promote, through education, the appreciation, distribution, and enjoyment of fine arts
and crafts.
