DNACA presents "Come Walk with Me" - paintings by De'De' Nicolls at the Crescent City Airport from June to October.

Paintings and Poetry Combine to Reflect on the Human Epoch at Coos Art Museum

Reflections on the Human Epoch, with paintings by Claire Duncan and poetry by Pepper Trail, will be exhibited at Coos Art Museum in Coos Bay, Oregon, July 17 - October 2, 2021. Admission is $5, $2 for students and seniors and free to CAM members.

Duncan's series of paintings respond to questions of what it means to be human at a time when our own actions threaten the very nature that inspires us. The creatures that inhabit her work appear to bear witness to the after-effects of human impact and give silent judgment. Viewers are left to choose between the comforting, even sublime, experience of immersive nature and the anxiety we face when confronted with the consequences of human activity. 

Pepper Trail’s poetry extends and amplifies the themes posed by the paintings. Rather than “captions,” they present ideas on their own, which work in tandem with the visual art.

Pepper Trail’s writing has appeared in Rattle, Atlanta Review, Spillway, Kyoto Journal, Cascadia Review, and other publications, and has been nominated for The Pushcart Prize and Best of the Net awards. His collection Cascade-Siskiyou was a finalist for the 2016 Oregon Book Award in Poetry.

Claire Duncan’s work has appeared in exhibitions nationwide, including Leigh Yawkey Woodson Museum's Birds in Art, and has won numerous awards, including First Place in The Artist’s Magazine’s All Media Competition (Wildlife). A video segment on her work has appeared on Oregon Public Broadcasting’s Oregon Art Beat and on PBS Newshour’s CANVAS website.

Second Saturday Art Walk - June - Photos by Bill Schlichting and Nola Range

Christina Olsen is the Featured Artist at Brian Scott Gallery this month.

Pete also interviewed Featured Artist Christina Olsen. Christina paints a wide variety of subjects and confessed that she drew her first mermaids as a preschooler and her love of painting vintage cars is due to spending many happy hours at car shows with her father. Painting is therapeutic for Christina and her art reflects real joie de vivre.

Christina's art will cheer up any room.

Dale Wells is the Featured Artist for June at Manley Art Center. Dale has long been a popular local artist and is always happy to discuss his work with admirers. Manley Art Center on Oak Street is open again from 11 to 4 Tuesday through Saturday.
