Out of concern for our artistic community, Manley Art Center is closed until such time as it appears to be safe for us all to gather here once again. This includes classroom activities.

Vision 2020 Annual High School Art Competition at Coos Art Museum Feb 28 - April 18, 2020

WINNERS for 2020

Sam Mazur, a Gold Beach High School Senior, took home the 'Best of Show' award at VISION 2020. The annual high school art competition is underwritten by the Southwestern Oregon Community College Foundation. Stewart‘s submission, an oil titled “Sam Flowers” won her a two-year tuition waiver to attend Southwestern along with a $250 cash-purchase award.

Brooke Firestone, a Brookings Harbor High School Senior, was awarded '2nd Place' for her Ceramic sculpture “Thriller”. Firestone received a two-year tuition waiver to attend Southwestern along with a $100 cash-purchase award.

Cyrus Kenyan a Myrtle Point High School Senior, took home the '3rd Place' award for a digital artwork titled “Supellex Varia ad Amicum” Kenyan received a two-year tuition waiver to attend Southwestern along with a $75 cash-purchase award.

Sixteen other cash prizes ranging from $50 to $20 were awarded to grade division winners, grades 9 through 12.

 VISION 2020 consists of artwork from 13 southern Oregon high schools. The 76 works of art by 61 students came from the following high schools in alphabetical order: Bandon, Brookings-Harbor, Coquille, Gold Beach, Home School, Mapleton, Marshfield (in Coos Bay), Myrtle Point, North Bend, Reedsport Community Charter School, Roseburg and Winter Lakes.

 Each year the Vision exhibition continues to present the talents of our regional high school art students. VISION 2020 is on display in the upstairs galleries at Coos Art Museum through April 18, 2020.

John Gehl presents "Iceland" at Manley Art Center now through April 4

ICELAND has a crystal clear clarity that John Gehl captures in his newest body of photographs. Fortunately for us, his recent trip to ICELAND provides the Manley Art Center Gallery an unvarnished look at the natural beauty of an environment only slightly touched by man. The exhibition will hang March 3 thru April 4.  Manley Art Center will provide two opportunities to meet John Gehl, 2nd Saturday March 14, 3-6 pm and Thursday, March 19,  5-7 pm. At these receptions John will show a more extensive view of ICELAND thru a Lens.

*Go to Wright’s Custom Framing in Brookings to register and obtain an authorized art panel and entry form.

*The 2020 Exhibition will be limited to 70 entries so don’t wait until the art panels are all gone.

*Registration fee is $10 per entry. Fees are applied to People’s Choice Awards for artists and the cost of preparing art panels.

Coos Art Museum Receives Grant from Three Rivers Foundation for Summer Art Cart in the Parks Program

On Thursday February 27, 2020, Coos Art Museum received an $1,800 grant award from the Three Rivers Foundation to continue presenting its free summer Art Cart in the parks program. The mobile arts activity “Art Cart in the Parks” is designed to augment, enhance and expand the current Free Summer Lunch Program for children. Programs will begin June 22, 2020 and continue until August 10, 2020. Specific locations, times and days will be announced shortly. Each program is designed to run for one hour and is completely free to all participants.

The Museum will be providing hands on art lessons that will be appropriate for all ages and are designed to keep kids active in learning and doing while school is out of session and boost the current free lunch program.

The 2020 Art Cart in the Park programs are made possible by a generous grant from the Three Rivers Foundation headquartered in Florence, Oregon. “The Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians through the Three Rivers Foundation demonstrate their dedication to preserving and advancing the quality of life in Southwest Oregon. The Three Rivers Foundation is devoted to investing in the community in a way that is reflective of the Tribe’s culture, values, and compassion.”
