Guest Artist of the Month at Manley Art Center is Karen Vogl.

During the Art Walk Pete Chasar interviewed Karen who confessed that she had once been a kindergarten teacher. Karen also explained some of her assemblage techniques which can very intricate and time consuming.

Her work includes both relatively flat wall hangings and 3D pieces.

Here is very 3D hanging piece -- please don't repeat that as an authentic art term... but you get the idea.

These and more of Karen Vogl's assemblages can be seen at Manley Art Center during the month of October. You NEED to view them up close!

The Gallery Theme at Manley Art Center this month is "Edibles"
The completely adorable oinker by De'De' Nicholls already sports a red dot... it has been sold, but you can still see it at Manley Art Gallery during September.

Toni Land at Ambiance by the Sea during the October Art Walk.

Lon Goddard entertained at Brian Scott Gallery.

Georgia Cockerham introduced Brian Scott Gallery's Artist of the Month - Angela Ewing.

We know Angela as a writer and frequent MC at Brian Scott Gallery events ... but no surprise that this Renaissance Lady also paints. At a long past Art Walk she gave a demonstration on how to serve a formal tea. She writes fiction, non fiction and even wrote a "Pub Grub" cookbook.

Angela told us that she has to think and prepare more when she paints than when she writes. Writing comes effortlessly.

Jaymie Allen is Artist of the Month at Wright's Custom Framing.
On display are works done with melted crayons. 37 other artists are represented in the Fog and Fine Art Gallery at Wright's.

Aiden Lile, artist who works at Wright's Custom Framing, demonstrated mask making during the October Art Walk. At 3 pm he created a full face mask on a volunteer... which we missed, but here is the second performance - a partial mask created using a mirror and his own face.

Aiden first covered his face with vaseline.

Strips of special material were dipped in water before application.

One piece at a time, Aiden covered his face.

It's beginning to look like a mask.

A few more layers for strength and gentle pressure to create the facial contours.

Aiden showed a mask with additions created for Halloween.

A hairdryer speeds up the drying process.

The mask is ready to remove - Aiden gently moves it around and wriggles his face loose underneath.

The mask begins to slip off.

Success! It's a mask!

The mold will be trimmed, completely dried, coated with plaster of Paris, sanded and decorated.

Examples of Aiden's finished masks.
Thanks Aiden - that was fun! And thanks to all the Brookings Second Saturday Art Walk Venues, Artists, and Musicians.
