The Chetco Pelican Players present Ken Kesey's classic asylum story, "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest," The show opened this week and there will be performances on Saturday evening (Sept 27), Sunday afternoon (Sept 28) at 2pm and for the next two weekends, at the Chetco Playhouse, 1240 Chetco Avenue (Hwy 101) in Brookings.
Adapted for the stage by Dale Wasserman, the famous tale takes place in the Oregon State Mental Hospital and revolves around a new inmate, charming rogue J.P.McMurphy (Evan Vest), who tries to organize a motley band of patients to rise up against the management 'combine,' represented by icy cold Nurse Ratched (Jaime Legate). A big, but silent Cherokee Indian (Ty Crowe) tries to warn McMurphy about upsetting the medical overlords and the wild battle for power leads to the show's shocking conclusion.
Directed by Evan Vest, the cast includes Mike Vest, Andrew Simmons, Matt Stump, Dave Lovell, Bill Schlichting, Zak Hanners, J.P. Chierichetti, Edgar Perez, Katlyn Temple, Briana Amlin, Matthew Perez and Kelly Scruggs.
Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for students, available at Wright's Custom Framing in Brookings, New Wave Video in Harbor and at the door. The show dates are Friday, Oct. 3, 10; Saturday, Sept. 27 and Oct. 4, 11; Sunday, Sept. 28 and Oct. 5, 12.
