The Brookings Second Saturday Art Walk has been suspended for the winter months of January, February and March. It will resume in April. Nevertheless, art and music lovers were not disappointed in January. Two events filled the evening of January 11, from 3 to 7 pm.
At Manley Art Center a crowd gathered at 3 pm to honor the life of Liz James.
Cilde Grover welcomed guests and invited everyone to reminisce about Liz.
Several paintings by Liz James have been loaned for display in the Gallery at Manley Art Center this month. This one is a portrait of an alder tree.
This wonderful original painting by Liz James is now available for purchase at Manley Art Center. This is a rare opportunity. Stop by the Gallery Tuesday through Sunday between 11 am and 4 pm - or call the Gallery at 541-469-1807.
Brian Scott and Signatures Galleries took advantage of the opportunity to hold multiple special events in one evening.
Tom Sheets talked about how he creates his driftwood assemblages.
Tom also paints colorful acrylic abstracts, which you can see along the stairway between Brian Scott Gallery and Art Alley Grille.
Christina Olsen was creating one of her popular bowls. When the painting is finished the bowl will be glazed. A selection of Christina's painted ceramics are available at Brian Scott Gallery.
Cecilia Johnson talked about her life, her art and her new book, Secrets in Stone. The two paintings on the left are by Cecilia.
Secrets in Stone will be offered at most art events in the Brookings area, where Cecilia will be signing copies for fans - and soon the book will also be available at Amazon.com.
Concert Pianist, Christy Dolan talked about the history of ragtime music and played several selections, including Scott Joplin's Maple Leaf Rag, a composition by Gershwin and Nola by Felix Arndt.
Christy's music had guests brimming with enthusiasm and at 7 pm they weren't ready to go home.
The After Art Walk Musician's party went on as usual - hosted this month by Marshall Thompson and thoroughly enjoyed by all the Art Walk Musicians and a few non musicians fortunate enough to be granted entree.
