Curry Arts Sponsored
Free Colored Pencil Workshop
with Shawn O’Connor
Saturday, March 23, 9 am to 2 pm
Curry County Extension Service Building
at the Fairgrounds in Gold Beach
Shawn O’Connor’s first workshop in March, 2012 was so well done it left her students clamoring for more. She has graciously agreed to do a second one. Shawn says of her work, "I have been using prismacolor pencils primarily in my artwork for over 25 years. They allow precision and detail which I especially enjoy in my quest for artistic realism, and are really a lot of fun to use. I was an anthropology major in college, before I changed and obtained a degree in nursing, and my love for the study of native cultures shows in the things that I choose to draw. I also enjoy drawing animals and flowers, and this media lends itself well to capturing the details within their images as well."
Curry Arts will supply bristol board paper, which is especially suited for this type of artwork, and Shawn will demonstrate using prismacolor pencils, and provide attendees with guidance and instruction as they endeavor to create their own unique rendering. Each person attending is asked to bring their own set of pencils, which can be obtained from art supply stores in Brookings and Coos Bay, as well as online art shops. They can be purchased individually, or in sets. It is recommended that a colorless blending pencil be purchased as well, available from these same sources; these are invaluable in bringing a finished pencil drawing to it's beautiful vibrant finishing point. Bring a photo or image that you would like to draw, or use one of the images we provide in honing your skills with this unique media.
Bring a sack lunch for the break. Coffee, tea and homemade cookies will be provided. Donations will be gladly accepted to help with the cost of materials.
If you have questions and to secure your place in the workshop, please phone Sharon Guinn at 541-425-1213 or email [email protected].
