Artoberfest, a new art fair sponsored by the Southern Oregon Guild, is one of two major arts events in the Illinois Valley, October 20th and 21st. At Artoberfest headquarters, located at the Rogue Community College Kerby Campus on Hwy 199 in Kerby, OR, visitors will meander through displays of beautiful watercolors, unique jewelry, art glass, fiber arts, ceramics, copper tooling, and woodcraft, accompanied by food and live music. Other Artoberfest art venues in Kerby are It’s a Burl, Kerbyville Museum, Seasons n Time, and Hampton’s Rock Shop. The 5th annual Valley Girls Quilt Show adds to the weekend’s Celebration of the Arts in the Illinois Valley. Artoberfest hours are 11:00 am to 6:00 pm on Saturday, Oct. 20 and 10:00 am to 4:30 pm Sunday, Oct. 21. Artoberfest is made possible by financial support from The Carpenter Foundation, Sterling Bank, South Valley Bank and the Eye Care Group.

The parade celebrating the 100th Brookings Second Saturday Art Walk proceeded down Art Walk Alley and around the block. Photograhers Bill Schlichting and Agatha Conrad caught the parade as it passed Brian Scott/Signatures Gallery. The entourage posed in front of the Curry Coastal Pilot building while Bill gallently stood in the middle of busy Chetco Avenue to get a picture.

Manley Art Center is featuring Emeritus Artists Liz James and Marian Chapman during the month of October.
Paintings by Liz James at Manley Art Center. Liz had a 30 year career as an illustrator, designer, and corporate art director in the San Francisco Bay Area, and has taught painting for over 30 years. In 1977 she moved to Oregon and became a full time painter. She is a consistent award winner in juried exhibitions.

Paintings by Marian Chapman at Manley Art Center. Marian joined with Virginia Manley to start the Pelican Bay Arts Association in 1955. She has tried every art medium, but is best known for her watercolors and tole paintings. For many years she taught tole and china painting in her home studio. She continued to paint after suffering a stroke in 2008, but after a second stroke she retired from painting. Art has remained an important part of her life.
