The Brookings Coastal Plein Air Artists are showing at the Gold Beach Fair Grounds this weekend (Thursday July 26 through Sunday, July 29. Come see the work of Audi Stanton, Kathy Huxley, Verna Pooler, and Eva Klaas. All will have paintings for sale.

Mat Cutting Workshop at Manley Art Center

Would you like to be able to cut your own mats?  PBAA is offering a mini workshop on mat cutting, July 30th at 1pm at Manley Art Center. George Cady will be talking about the process and demonstrating the techniques on the Manley Center's own mat cutters, which are available to all members. This opportunity is open to all members.

Follow-up practice sessions will be scheduled for those who would like hands-on experience. You must come to the demonstration to take part in a practice session.

This week our work shop demonstration will be: beginning a painting of a baby harbor seal in watercolor.  Some of the things we will discuss include  - what color is a "white seal"?  What about warm and cool colors.

Last week our demo was varnishing a watercolor so that it can be framed without glass.  We''ll look at that again.

J.M. Steele's Oil Painting class for Beginners thru Advanced will cover basic design, color theory and still life. In a fun-filled, educational setting, you will be instructed and given valuable information, as well as many handouts, to help you see the world thru an artist’s eye. The student will then interpret and apply that knowledge by completing at least one still life painting in the course of the day. Learn the fundamentals, new skills, tricks and tips that will make your paintings come to life!

A juried Exhibition for Seniors at the Del Norte County Fair: August 2 - 5, 2012.

Important dates are:

• Entry forms and fees are due in by Friday, July 27, 2012
• Artworks to be delivered to the floral building between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31
• The show hangs all four days of the fair: Aug. 2-5
• Reception is from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 2
• Pick up your artwork from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 6.

Brookings Plein Air Artists have a new blog and website

Several Plein Air Artists of Brookings have a created a new blog to showcase and discuss their work.

Kathy Huxley, who painted the oil seascape above, plus Audi Stanton, Verna Pooler, and Eva Maria Tanner-Klaas are represented - and of course, Brookings most recognizeable plein air artist, Rob Decker.

They call themselves the Brookings Coastal Plein Air Artists and they will be painting every Saturday all summer at Winchuck Gardens and Nursery (15546 Highway 101, just South of Brookings). They always have work available for sale. You can also see their work at Manley Art Center in Brookings, Crescent Harbor Gallery in Crescent City, and at Winchuck Gardens and Nursery during regular business hours.
