Popular Watercolor Instructor, Larry Johnson, held a workshop in the classroom at Wrights Custom Framing in Brookings this week. This is the third year that Larry Johnson has held a workshop in Brookings and the class was full. Larry demonstrates a technique for the class and then everyone goes to work practicing that technique on their own painting.
Local Watercolor Instructor, Janeen Vick, was a student in Larry Johnson's workshop.
Students from the local area and from as far away as Grants Pass participated.
Paintings were created in stages, as the students practiced the techniques that Larry demonstrated.
Notice the different brush sizes that artists choose to work with.
Larry Johnson circulates to offer coaching and critiques to the students as they paint.
Larry's condensed bio:
He went on to the University of Oregon for his formal architectural studies and continued to paint. After completing his studies at the U of O, he attended the Los Angeles Art Center of Design for two years studying commercial and architectural illustration. He worked as an illustrator for many years, but always painted in his spare time, concentrating on wildlife scenes.
As he gained a reputation across the nation as one of the top wildlife artists in the United States, he decided to paint full time. He traveled across the country displaying in Ducks Unlimited and other art shows and placing his work in numerous art galleries from Seattle to New York.
Today he's retired and while still painting, most of his works are of landscapes and rural scenes. Above all, he enjoys teaching others how to improve their techniques to become better artists in his watercolor or acrylic workshops.
See Larry Johnson's website for originals and prints of his work.
