After a week in a plein aire workshop, struggling to learn how to paint with oils, and then a day to clean up the mess and catch up with everything that had been abandoned for a week, I had the evening off to go enjoy some great local art. Brookings Art Walk here I come!
First stop, A Wild Bird and Backyard General Store. Ruth Stonier demonstrated her silver and glass art. You can visit Ruth at 1105D Cheteco Avenue to see her beautiful work.
Wright's Custom Framing has moved to 810 Chetco Avenue - next to Evergreen Bank, and plans to exhibit "Bruins on Bikes" (14 fiberglass bears on real Harleys and choppers) from now until January. Unexpectedly, Wright's was closed during the Art Walk. Stop by the new store to see Susie and Dennis and hopefully, the bears.
A highlight wherever they play, Aura Wright and Lon Goddard entertained at Manley Art Center.
Manley's Artist of the Month is Christina Olsen.
Christina Olsen demonstrated how she paints her pottery pieces.
After painting, the pieces are fired. See Christina's pottery collection at Signatures Gallery.
Visitors at Manley enjoyed the work of local artists on the classroom wall.
This Art Walk visitor is looking through Manley's collection of unframed original art and prints by local artists. The "unframed rack" is always full of good local art at very reasonable prices.
Dewey's Digs (Curry Coastal Pilot conference room, accessed from Art Walk Alley) featured the photography of Jef Hatch.
Fortunately Jef's photographs are large enough to be seen from across the room. Dewey's Digs was packed with Art Walk visitors who came to see the Limericists bid farewell to Limericist Queen Lynn Guild who is moving to Michigan this month.
Lynn kept her chin up as she was regaled with limerick after limerick.
Bill Schlichting was oh so sincere.
Charlie Kocher, Connie Ruma, Horst Wolf, and Elmo Williams (seated), were sincere, sincerely insincere, and ok, just plain silly.
Aw... Bryan Skidmore, you're soooo sweet.
We will all miss Lynn.
OK boys, now who's going to be queen?
Next door at Words and Pictures, Billie Ruth Furuichi signed her new book "Illuminating the Mundane".
Buzz Stewart is showing new work, including this watercolor and some beautiful acrylics. I thought they were oil, but Buzz set me straight.
Montana Holt read from her "Reflections" and "Fairytales" at Words and Pictures... looks like an Audi Stanton watercolor on the right - and a couple of Pete Chasars on the back wall.
Over at the Library, the September show is by four "Wild Rivers Artists". Leslie Wolf (above), Tom Farmer, Dale Wells, and Christina Olsen.
Dale Wells is showing four of his watercolors at the Library.
Christina Olsen is also showing four charming pieces.
These three are by watercolorist, Tom Farmer.
Leslie Wolf (in the Oktoberfest Costume) chatting with friends while waiting for the Pelican Players to perform.
Elmo Williams has written a play! The premier of "The Corner Pocket" by the Pelican Players will be October 1, but Art Walk visitors got a preview at the Library.
Stars of "The Corner Pocket," Bryan Skidmore and Katherine Benjamin -- he's being sweet again! That's twice in one evening.
Now his glasses are steaming.
Wait a minute - how did these characters get into the story? We'll have to go see the entire play to find out.
Get tickets to "The Corner Pocket" at Words and Pictures, Chetco Pharmacy, Blockbuster, and The Book Dock.
Brian Scott Gallery is featuring several local artists. Above, Christina Olsen and Dale Wells.
Two of Horst Wolf's Martian Zoo series. You can see several more at Brian Scott Gallery this month.
Taste O'Honey at Brian Scott Gallery during the Art Walk.
Horst welcomed diners to Art Alley Grille after the Art Walk.
