Billie Ruth Furuichi is showing her fabric art at Brian Scott Gallery.
There were 18 venues on the August Second Saturday Art Walk in Brookings, Oregon. Great! Lots to see and do and listen to! But can you see it all? You have exactly 10 minutes per venue and that includes travel time from one venue to the next. You stop for a talk or a demonstration, you chat with a few friends, you see art you admire and pause to enjoy it... suddenly, you realize that you are never going to be able to see it all.
This was a busy Art Walk. Every venue I visited was crowded. People were talking about what they had already seen and I heard numerous reports of how fabulous the Visana Yoga demonstration was (which I unfortunately missed). Also missed the Limericists, the Stout Mountain Railway, and the Muse Theatrix Presentation of samples of their upcoming musical comedy, Christina Olsen's demonstration at Village Express and Jean Beebe's work at Wild Bird and Backyard Store. WOW - that's enough to fill up an entire evening and I missed it all. What was I doing?

The work of Summer Art Camp Students was on display at Manley Art Center.

The Young Art Students acted as Docents at the Art Walk. Here they are explaining what they had learned (from Instructor Janeen Vick) to visitors taking Pete Chasar's tour.

Kathy Huxley and Tom Huxley are Artists of the Month at Manley Art Center. Here Kathy is just beginning a plein air oil painting demonstration while artist Frank Gustavson looks on. (Frank's work is showing at the Chetco Library this month). Two of Tom Huxley's photographs were sold during the Art Walk.
The Stout Park Beautification Committee unveiled models and drawings of planned improvements on the south end of the park - next to the Manley Art Center. Plans include benches and a fountain that projects a stream over the sidewalk. Their plan is to "turn a lackluster public space into something really special--for the benefit of all of Brookings, our friends, and our visitors." City funds are severely limited, so they are relying almost entirely on private donations and grants. Donations in the form of time, materials, or money are welcome... for a $50 or $100 donation your name will be engraved in one of the bricks or paving stones along the sidewalk. Call 541-469-1131 for information.
A cake frosted with a rendering of the model of the proposed park was served.
Tony Parish did the honors.
In addition to the unusual water feature, the park will feature natural stone walls, semi-circular stone benches, and artistic paving - plants include turf grass and ornamental shrubs and grasses.
Jerry Moffitt on the keyboard at the beautiful new location of Signatures Gallery on Chetco Avenue. Sandy Bonney showed us a wonderful new figure by Drew Struzan (not pictured) and I tried to mimic the pose--I did get close, but decided that if I managed to succeed entirely I would need a chiropractor to put my parts back where they belong. Keith Sluder arrived to talk about his latest work in a series of art deco women. There is a rumor that he may hold a workshop at Manley Art Center to teach some of his unusual techniques with watercolor.
There was a new mannequin just down the street from Marilyn Monroe... standing on a pedestal with his name engraved: Art Walker.
Wait a minute! It moved!
Giraffes on a Raft entertained at Brian Scott's Gallery, where you can see the work of Billie Ruth Furuichi, Horst Wolf, Dale Wells, Trude Zmoelnig, Richard Hinger, and Christina Olsen - plus Elio Camacho and his students.
At The Snug, upstairs from Brian Scott's Gallery, Dale Wells was showing his watercolors, and his grand daughter, Kelsey, was showing her oils and selling her cards.
Nielann Reynolds entertained at Eye for Art, which is showing the abstract work of Dusanka Kralj, Barbara Kennedy, Lorraine Filippone, and others.
Feather Your Nest offered this display of hand crafted jewelry by Norman and Deanna Kreuter. Their jewelry incorporates Pacific Ocean and coastal river agates, jasper and shells with 14K gold filled and sterling silver wires.
At Wrights where Kathleen Kresa is showing this month, Susie showed us the wonderful revolving system her son built to display their framing samples. Now they can show many more framing options for your art.
Visitors to "Firefly" enjoyed the whimsical work of Destiny Schwartz.
Who is that dancing to Rogue River Jam at the Chetco Library?
The popular Rogue River Jam at Chetco Library, inspired tour guide Pete Chaser to kick up his heels.

Buzz Stewart and Magda Drudzel are featured artists at Words and Pictures this month. Above Buzz discusses his art with an Art Walk visitor. Buzz is showing some wonderful new pieces and Magda has one in a style that is a surprise - unlike anything we've seen from her before.
The Grill on the Alley... final stop of the evening... music by Horst, art by Dale wells and others, and here's our Queen of Limericists, Lynn Guild. The food is excellent, by the way.
P.S.
Jack Sheid, co-founder of the Wild Coast Photography Club, took this photo of Kathy Huxley painting later in the Art Walk when her painting was well underway. Learn more about the photo club at http://www.wildcoastphotoclub.com/
