Come spend five days in Gold Beach on the beautiful southern Oregon coast with internationally renowned watercolor artist and instructor, Sterling Edwards. Our town is located on America’s Wild River Coast at the mouth of the famous Rogue River. Most of Sterling’s paintings reflect his love of the outdoors so you will be inspired by the beautiful landscape of our area which is nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the Coast Mountain Range. For more local information please see http://www.goldbeach.org and http://www.goldbeachchamber.com. Sterling’s website is http://sterlingedwards.com.
“My watercolor workshops are designed to be very educational and inspirational. I teach a multitude of watercolor techniques but I also encourage participants to go a little beyond their comfort zone. I believe that as artists we all need to learn to be creative and interpret rather than replicate. In addition, I believe that the workshop should be open and fun. I encourage questions and strive to create an atmosphere where everyone, regardless of their skill level, feels at ease and comfortable.”
Sterling is known for his transparent watercolors that exhibit bold composition focusing on the design of the subject as well as the patterns of light and dark. He primarily utilizes large brushes while demonstrating such techniques as positive and negative shapes, color glazing, saving white paper and building rich values just to name a few.
“Each morning of the workshop I will do a complete watercolor painting which will be completed before lunch time. As I paint I will clearly explain not only what I am doing but also my thought process so the student can learn to think ahead of what is taking place on the piece of paper. Every demonstration that I paint will be a different subject so that a wide variety of subjects and styles are demonstrated throughout the week. Following lunch, I am available to assist where needed as students work on their paintings. Students can paint whatever they like in whatever style they choose. Sometimes in the afternoon I will do a small mini demonstration of a specific technique or subject. These mini demos are always popular at workshops as they focus on specific subjects such as an easy way to paint trees or how to paint convincing rocks just to name a couple.”
The cost of the workshop is $325 for each participant. Beverages and snacks during the workshop will be included in the price. The hours will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with an hour for lunch at the expense of the participant.
A $100 deposit or full payment will reserve your space. A receipt and supply list will be sent in return. Final payment in full must be received by Friday, April 3, 2009 unless other arrangements have been made. No refund will be made within 14 days of the workshop unless a replacement is found and no refunds are given once the workshop begins. Checks and cash are accepted.
