The Brookings, Oregon, Second Saturday Art Walk on September 13, offered plenty to see and delightful music all over town.
At Manley Art Center and Gallery the Rogue River Jam kept things lively. Artists of the Month, Jim McCarten and Lorraine Reinmuth demonstrated their art for visitors.
Jim McCarten creates gorgeous canvases using a unique method of oil painting, which he shared with visitors to Manley Art Center.
Jim's paint tubes are a work of art themselves.
Lorraine Reinmuth demonstrated Brazilian Embroidery at Manley Art Center.
This type of embroidery features three dimensional, raised designs. If you'd like to learn this beautiful craft, Lorraine is currently teaching a class at the Brookings Activity Center. This summer the award winning sculptor, D.J. Garrity, held a workshop at Manley Art Center. The work of his local students is now on display at Manley Art Center and Gallery.
Manley Art Center and Gallery is a partner with Rotary for the Wild Rivers Ducky Derby coming up on September 21 at Loeb Park. This Derby raises money for local non-profit organizations. During the Art Walk, Barbara Jervis and Lorelei Hanna sold "adopt a duck" tickets for the derby. Prizes are amazing. Tickets will be on sale through Wednesday, September 17. Get your ticket now - tickets will not be sold on the day of the race. On Sunday, September 21, at 11 am, the Wild Rivers Ducky Derby festivities begin at Loeb Park on the Chetco. There will be booths, food, face painting, a rock painting class, and music until 2 pm -- when the Duck Race begins. Bring the family for a day of fun.
On Art Walk Alley, behind the Pilot, Publisher Charlie Kocher was also selling tickets for the Wild Rivers Ducky Derby.
Decorated (make that Duckerated) Duckies were up for auction.
Just down Art Walk Alley we found Scott Grave's outdoor drum circle neatly tucked into a cave-like room under Wright's frame shop. The space was artfully decorated with the clever and colorful work of Bette Sherbourne.
At Signatures Gallery, Royal Canadian Artist Duncan Regehr was on hand for a book signing.
Karina and Marco provided Italian cafe music at Eye for Art Gallery where Lorraine Fillipone's large abstracts are currently shown, along with the art of Dusanka Kralj.
Wrights, the new art supply and frame shop in Brookings, is showing the work of Bette Sherbourne, Marge Brown, and Wayne Bricco. Marshall Thompson entertained.
At Words and Pictures Gallery, Buzz Stewart discussed his new paintings with visitors.
Nina Paulsen was at the keyboard in her usual place at Words and Pictures Gallery.
Chetco Library visitors enjoyed the music of the Ramblers and the art of Sara Broderick, Kandi Legg, Sandy Bonney, and K. Roeckl. At a new venue for the Art Walk, Centre Stage (formerly Central Gallery), Tembre performed. Centre Stage is being renovated to include a book store, coffee shop, and art gallery. You can currently see the work of Christina Olsen and Bette Sherbourne at Centre Stage... watch for more to come at this location.
