Silent Action to Benefit Kid's Art Program at Manley Art Center

There will be a Silent Auction of artwork at the Azalea Festival Art Show on May 24 and 25, with the proceeds going to the Children’s Art Program at Manley Art Center. There will be a minimum price on each piece. If it doesn’t sell the piece will be returned to the donator. Please contact Jeanene Craft, Chairperson,  [email protected]  with your “generous” donations.

Janeen Vick has developed a popular art program for kids at Manley Art Center. Donations to this program provide art supplies for the classes and tuition for kids who can't afford the $2 per hour fee. Contributions for this worthy program can be made to Manley Art Center and Gallery by mail, or stop in Tues-Sun from 11 am to 4 pm.  Sponsor a child, or make a contribution for supplies.

Azalea Festival Art Show Entry Forms are Available

Entry Forms for the Azalea Festival Art Show are available at:  Manley Art Center, Words & Pictures, Chetco Library, Signatures, Pieces of Time, Crescent Harbor Art Gallery, Chetco Pharmacy,  Mory’s, Judy’s Frame Shop, and Bisquit Gallery in Gold Beach. The forms include a complete prospectus for the show.

This year's Azalea Festival Art Show will be held at the Azalea Middle School Gym on Saturday, May 24 from 11 am to 5 pm and on Sunday, May 25 from 11 am to 4 pm.

Seasons by the Sea is this year’s theme. All artists age 18 or older may submit up to 4 original works of art — created within the past two years, no student or workshop art, work not shown previously at the Azalea Art Show, not to exceed 40” in any dimension, framed and ready for hanging with wire hangers. The entry fee is $10 per piece, and there is a 25% commission on work sold at the show.

April Art Roll in Gold Beach

SAVE THE DATE...Saturday, April 26, 2008 is the date of the next eagerly awaited Art Roll in Gold Beach. A Free "CFCU" Tour bus will stop every 20 minutes at each gallery between 4 pm and 7 pm, or enjoy a self guided tour.  Galleries will provide live music, refreshments, and art demonstrations. There are prizes for those persons completing the tour, and a 10% discount on art purchases is offered at the featured galleries during the Art Roll. Artists Studio Tour in Brookings, Oregon -- Deadline for artists to register is March 14

The Artists Studio Tour in Brookings on July 12 and 13 is a benefit for Manley Art Center & Gallery.  If you would like to be a part of this exciting event contact Violet Burton, chairperson, at 541-469-9522 or email her at [email protected].

At the Friday night Black Tie & Tennis Shoe Reception there will be an auction of decorated tennis shoes. Ace Hardware has acrylic paint in a tube that is perfect for painting the shoes. The reception hours are 5—8 pm at Manley Art Center & Gallery.

The Tour Pass will be available for $10 at the Azalea Festival Art Show, Manley Art Center & Gallery, Words & Pictures, Mory's and also at the Friday night reception.

The Tour Pass will admit one person to the tour and to the Friday night gala and includes one collectible champagne flute.

The Tour Committee anticipates having a couple of vans available to transport people from location to location on both days.

Having a great time at the March 2008 Brookings Second Saturday Art Walk

We began the evening at Manley Art Center and Gallery where Janeen Vick taught two sessions of Splash Painting. All materials were provided and the participating "students" ranged in experience from accomplished artists to "never used a brush". Did we participate? Who could resist! We all had a great time painting a lively jellyfish swimming in a sea of watercolor. During the class Janeen told us about the art programs she has developed for local children and teens and the classes she is holding after school at Manley Art Center and Gallery on Thursdays this spring.

Local Artist, Rob Decker, created an energetic splash -painted jellyfish that looked like it could propel itself right off the paper.

  In the Manley Art Gallery visitors enjoyed the music of Billie Ruth and Dave Brusseau while perusing this month's show. March artists of the month are Kandi Legg and Janeen Vick.

Carl Rovainen and Friends entertained at the Library where a show by Gold Beach Artists was hung. The show will be up for the month of March for anyone who missed the Art Walk. Artists include Alexandra Eyer, Magda Druzdzel, Duana Roberts, and Sharon Guinn.

At Signatures Gallery Sandy Bonnie is showing several wonderful new works of her own. Here she is photographing a gentleman sitting in front of his portrait.

Here we are at Central Gallery -- you never know what will happen when you walk into Central Gallery. Last month it was impromptu waltzing, this month Gold Beach artist, Shelly Wierzba, was treated to bongo lessons with Horst Wolf and Friends... the earlier, scheduled entertainment at Central Gallery included Cheryl Seaton and her "Italian Dancers" who taught the Tarantella to gallery visitors and The Limericists who went "green" in honor of St. Patrick's Day. Gallery artists include Dan Sawyer, James McCarten, Bette Sherbourne, and Christina Olsen.
