The "Holiday Art Roll" in Gold Beach was painted with a touch of White Christmas - hail! Enough hail to lure Art Rollers to the windows to watch it coming down and enough to pile up in places, making white outlines on windows and curbs.
Inside the seven art galleries on the tour a warm, holiday atmosphere greeted visitors; music, festive food, art demonstrations, and lots of art to see.
Magda Druzdzel gets my vote for the bravest or neatest artist in Gold Beach. Wearing a elegant, sparkling white, sweater and skirt (sans apron), she demonstrated watercolor painting at The Wave Galleria. It's been often repeated that artists have two kinds of clothes - those that have paint on them and those that will have paint on them. Magda kept all her paint on the paper.
Alexandra Eyer gets the "Most Unrufflable Artist" award for demonstrating portrait painting with a model under challenging circumstances -- visitors constantly interrupted both artist and model but Alexandra conversed, smiled, laughed, painted, and enjoyed every minute.
Dale Wells is always exploring new subjects. At Pieces of Time Gallery he demonstrated his technique with lillies in a cool palette - he had a wonderful completed work of lillies painted with a warm palette nearby.
Carol Salin, one of the few photographers who still use film rather than digital imaging, gave a presentation on "What Inspired Great American Photographers" at Picture This!
Galleries on the Holiday Art Roll were (from south to north) South Beach Gallery, The Wave Galleria, Pieces of Time Gallery, Picture This!, Biscuit Gallery, Gray Whales Gallery, and Rouge's Gallery.
Musicians participating included Sharon Guinn and Jan Burris, Horst Wolf and Friends, Veronica DeWitt, Ray Kornell, Paul Renner and Harry Hoogesteger, and Heather Carpenter.
Artists presenting demonstrations included Alexandra Eyer and Magda Druzdzel at The Wave Galleria, Dale Wells at Pieces of Time, Pat Renner at Gray Whales and Linda Edwards and Mary Buchwald at South Beach Gallery. Carol Salin gave a talk on photographers secrets at Picture This! Rogue's Gallery offered a creative gift wrapping demonstration and Biscuit Gallery presented "The Night Before Christmas Redux".
