SHOW YOUR WORK IN A NEW EXHIBITION SPACE
BECOME A PART OF THE COASTAL OREGON VISUAL ARTIST ARCHIVE
Call for Visual Artists: Be one of the first artists in your county to exhibit in the new Coastal Oregon Visual Artists Showcase for Mid-Career Artists. Plus, have a video capturing your work and process that becomes a permanent part of the Coastal Oregon Visual Artist Archive.
About the Showcase: In the spring of 2011, OCCA received a capital improvement grant from the Ford Family Foundation to build a showcase at the Newport Visual Arts Center to exhibit the work of mid-career Oregon visual artists who live within the boundaries of the arts council. With the help of a bequest from a former Newport artist, Anna Lee Davis, a donation from the auction of the 2010 hand painted art banners from the Nye Beach Merchants Association and financial support from OCCA and the Oregon Arts Commission, the showcase has been installed along with a touch screen computer programmed to show videos of the exhibiting artist’s work, process and/or studio, building a visual archive of coastal artists.
The maple showcase has interior dimensions of 124” wide x 70” tall x 15” deep with slat walls on the back and right side to accommodate a variety of installation requirements from hooks for hanging framed art to glass or wooden shelves for three dimensional works. The showcase has locking, tempered glass doors, adjustable track lighting and an interior motion detection alarm system for security.
In May 2012, the first cycle of artists began showing their work in the Showcase. We are now ready for the second call for artists to begin rotating by county in the exhibit space from March 2013 through September 2013.
The Invitation: Mid-career Oregon artists from all 7 coastal counties - Curry, Coos, Douglas (Reedsport School District), Lane (Siuslaw School District), Lincoln, Tillamook and Clatsop counties - who meet the following criteria are invited to submit a proposal to exhibit in the Coastal Oregon Visual Artists Showcase (COVAS).
