The Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness (DNACA) presents the first performance of its 30th anniversary season–Eugene Ballet Company in "All You Need is Love"–at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012 in Crescent Elk Auditorium, 994 G Street, Crescent City.
Founded in 1978 by Toni Pimble and Riley Grannan, the Eugene Ballet Company (EBC) has grown from a community-based dance group to become one the West’s busiest and most versatile professional dance companies. EBC sets a high standard in the performing arts and has gained a loyal following of dance fans everywhere goes.
Eugene Ballet performed "The Nutcracker" for DNACA in Crescent City in 1985; "Alice in Wonderland" for the Del Norte-Curry Community Concert Association in 1998, and on this visit will perform a contemporary ballet set to the music of the Beatles titled "All You Need is Love," as well as two pieces from "Don Quixote" and "Light Rain," a signature piece of the Joffrey Ballet.
The company has performed in more than 100 cities in 32 states of the nation, as well as internationally in Canada, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Syria, Jordan, Tunisia and Taiwan, presenting a wide range of classical and contemporary works. These include from full length classical ballets ("Swan Lake," "Cinderella," "The Sleeping Beauty," "Don Quixote") to contemporary works like Lynne Taylor-Corbett’s "In A Word," Robert "Battle’s Circle, Line Square" and Jill Eathorne Bahr’s "Captured Angel" and family programs that include Bruce Steivel’s "Peter Pan," Ken Kesey’s "Little Tricker The Squirrel Meets Big Double The Bear" and Daniel Pelzig’s "Princess & The Pea." One of the company's goals has always been to present a wide variety of programming for its audiences.
EBC hosts four-production resident seasons at the 2,500-seat Hult Center for the Performing Arts in Eugene, three-production seasons in Salem and Corvallis, Ore. and also tours throughout the Northwest. Over the past two decades, the company has been continuously recognized by the National Endowment for the Arts with Dance Company Grant awards and, in 1996, was the first Oregon dance company to be a recipient of the Governor’s Arts Award.
Tickets cost $18 general, $15 for seniors 65 and older and $12 for full-time students, K-college, and are available at Del Norte Office Supply in Crescent City, Wright's Custom Framing in Brookings and at the door beginning at 6:45 p.m. Season tickets -- which provided significant saving for purchasers for all five performances and are transferable and replaceable -- are available at the same outlets.
