Manley Art Center is always a good place to begin the Art Walk. This month Vi and Len Burton are Artists of the Month. Vi is showing her beautiful local photographs, and Len is showing some of his smaller oils of local places. Here Vi is discussing the show with a visitor while Marshall Thompson performs with guitar and vocals.
Len Burton discussed the process he uses to create an oil painting.
Jane Opiat is showing her fiber art at Manley Art Center, and was busy making a scarf during the March Art Walk.
The Wild Rivers Coast Photography Club is having it's first show ever at the Chetco Community Library during the month of March.
Agatha Conrad received the "Best of Show" Award for this photograph called "Morning Sun".
First Place in the Advanced Division went to Patree Brooks for "Capella".
First Place in the Novice Division was awarded to Carl "Eddie" Shauger" for "Fencing in the Color".
"Shall We Dance" by Agatha Conrad received Second in the Advanced Division.
"Attitude" by Lorraine Sigourney was just irresistible.
Patree Brooks inverted a photograph of a reflection to create a photo that really looks like a watercolor painting!
There are numerous more beautiful photographs by Wild Rivers Coast Photography Club members that will be on display during the month of March.
The crowd enjoyed the photography of Richard Leathers at Dewey's Digs.
Billie Ruth Furuichi entertained at Wright's Gallery Down Under where Janis Parker and Donna Bush are showing watercolors and Sharon Guinn is showing mixed media paintings. Also showing is photography by Susie Wright and Vicki Evans (100% of the proceeds from sales go towards Haiti relief funds). Upstairs at Wright's Custom Framing, Bette Sherbourne is showing a collection of very upbeat and fun mixed media paintings.
Words and Pictures is featuring "Abstract and Impressionistic Paintings" and three Brookings artists, Pete Chasar, Buzz Stewart, and Dale Wells, gathered to discuss the art on display.
Buzz Stewart with one of his impressionistic watercolors. Buzz has been a member of the Watercolor Society of Oregon since 1972. Another of his latest watercolors was juried into the statewide WSO Show that will be held at Manley Art Center next month.
Taste O'Honey entertained at Brian Scott Gallery (paintings by Horst Wolf in the background).
Christina Olsen, another artist represented at Brian Scott Gallery, with Marjorie Woodfin, writer and photographer for the Curry Coastal Pilot.
"Statue Guy" Mike Vest was rock solid. The pigeon preened and looked around at the Art Walkers, but never left Statue Guy's shoulder.
Horst Wolf introduced Guest Artist, Audi Stanton.
Audi's talk "The Positive Things about Negative Painting" was entertaining and informative. She promised that negative painting is not difficult and is fun to do. She showed examples of completed paintings and a painting in progress that employs the negative painting technique. Audi is a popular watercolor instructor in Brookings. The Art Alley Grill is a wonderful final venue on the Brookings Art Walk - paintings by Christina Olsen will make you smile. Bryan Skidmore will make you feel right at home.
