The Pelican Bay Arts Association (PBAA) meets at 11 am the second Thursday of every month at Manley Art Center (MAC) in Brookings. The General Meeting is always open to guests from the community and includes a potluck at noon and an art demonstration by a different artist each month.
At the March meeting of PBAA at MAC, BJ Bremer talked about Japanese Sumie Painting and demonstrated how she makes her ink and applies it to rice paper using a sumie brush. A sumie composition reflects the perfection, harmony, and strength of nature. It requires years of practice to master the brush strokes that develop shape, form and shade and create realistic images in monochromatic tones. Above BJ demonstrates brush strokes and Abby Pettinger follows along.
