YES, Janeen Vick is going to do it again this summer! Summer Art Camp for Kids will be held the last two weeks of June and all of July at the Kalmiopsis School in a Shelter One classroom. It will be under the "umbrella of KASPER" the City Recreation Department, and will be what is known as a "premium class". That means there will be a charge to cover supplies and expenses. Painting supplies include good quality watercolor paint, 140 lb. paper, and good brushes so the kids can use real products and learn real art basics.
After a demo and talk on painting trees, students in Janeen Vick's After School Art Class at Manley Art Center pick up their brushes and begin trying it themselves. Janeen works individually with each student.
The 2008 Summer Art Camp for Kids will run for a total of 20 days and is $160 per child. If more than one child per family attends, each child after the first is half price. Janeen already has commitments from quite a few of last year's Art Camp students and from her after school art class. If KASPER advertises it is expected that there will be applicants who would like to take the class but cannot afford the tuition. Those names will be kept anonymous by the school but will need scholarships to attend. There will be FREE lunches provided this year for all children in any summer program.
Janeen hopes to hire two high school students as assistant teachers as she did last year. She pays the assistants $5.00 per hour to help with the kids. They get the experience of teaching and they can also use this as their Senior Project.
If you or your organization would like to help, please contact Janeen Vick at vjvick@nwtec.com or 541 469-4590. If you would like to send a child to the Summer Art Camp, scholarships of $80.00 or full scholarships of $160.00 are needed for this summer. Thanks to all of you for your support in keeping ART alive for our youth of Brookings.
