It hadn't rained for a week in Brookings... but on the eagerly awaited Ribbon Cutting Day for Art Walk Alley, the mist blew in to bless the proceedings. Art lovers weren't deterred. The Art Walk venues were lively.
At Manley Art Center and Gallery the TV cameras were rolling. A sing along with Carl Rovainen's Boondocks was going on the the gallery.
In the Manley classroom the refreshments table was groaning with meat pastries, egg rolls, and assorted desserts.
Also in the Manley Classroom, the Tuesday Painters demonstrated their techniques.
At Diamond Electronics Jim Coffee and his wife Cheryl displayed slide shows of spectacularly beautiful panoramic photographs on several large screens while Rapp Brush played guitar.
Audi Stanton stopped in at Signatures Gallery to chat with Sandy Bonny. Sandy has some impressive work of her own hung along with Donald and Nancy Rommes' stunning photographs of Orkney Island, Scotland.
Kolleen Stafford's Reception at the VFW Hall was a nice addition to the May Art Walk. Kolleen's watercolors were on display along with the patriotic mural she recently completed for the renovated hall.
Lon Goddard and Auri Wright played at Pieces of Time Gallery where the excellent work of many local artists is currently hung.
And Here's Pete Chasar (on right) at Eye for Art, leading a tour of the Art Walk venues.
PBAA President Bobbie Geney and her husband Dick, about to join the crowd at Words and Pictures.
Words and Pictures is celebrating its 20th Anniversary -- and as usual, it's standing room only in the gallery.
It's Parade time for Art Walk Alley. Horst leads with a bugle...
and merry makers with whistles and noise-makers followed down the alley and up to Chetco to circle the block.
As the parade made it's way down Checto Avenue, Horst made a brief stop to bugle-out anyone dining at the Snug.
Back in the Alley, after the parade, the very serious business of Ribbon Cutting was performed -- with raindrops falling heavier than ever.
The Pelican Players performed three numbers from Oliver...
and here's Leslie "Wolf-ing" down a hot dog... is that Marge Woodfin from the Pilot under that rain hat? And Dale Wells holding the sign. The festivities moved out of the rain and into Central Gallery (where Barbara Kennedy's work is currently featured) to continue into the evening...
