The first time I went to Brookings' Second Saturday Art Walk I looked at the list of participating venues and thought to myself that the most efficient route was pretty obvious. Begin at Manley Art Center, then head for Central Gallery and work south on Chetco Avenue hitting Banana Belt, Terra Cotta Corner, Signatures, Eye for Art, and Exotic Wood Gallery - then down Oak Street to Words and Pictures, and finish by taking Spruce to Alder and visiting the Library's display. That worked just fine efficiency-wise and I made it to every location, but I missed most of the demonstrations and events that were also going on at the galleries.
If you want to really "DO" the Art Walk, you need to wear your watch and plan your route carefully. If you visit the galleries that are offering demonstrations and events first and don't go to galleries that are not offering these extras until after the events are finished, you will need to put on your running shoes to finish because you'll have LESS THAN A HALF HOUR left to visit six more galleries. Evaluate where you want to spend the most time and schedule accordingly. You can pick up an Art Walk map at any of the locations on the Art Walk.
Here is my proposed route for Saturday, September 8, 2007. This plan should enable me to see everything and not miss any of the scheduled activities... Unless I see something I can't live without and stop to discuss a purchase -- then all bets are off. Venues offering demonstrations or talks are highlighted in red and I'll allow for more time at these locations.
