Artists display in Brookings Harbor, Come Rain and Come Shine
A beautiful day kicked off the 14th Annual Festival of the Arts at the Port of Brookings Harbor, Oregon. More than 125 artists and craftsmen from several western states participated in this event which was named Best Fine Arts Festival by the Oregon Festivals and Events Association in 2006.
Drizzle, breezes, and cooler temperatures thinned the crowd on Sunday, but the artists were undaunted and visitors enjoyed the show and concessions. Saturday's attendance was a record breaker.
Above, Manley Art Center and Gallery's Booth, where artists from Brookings, Harbor, and Gold Beach displayed their work. Other local artists showed in individual booths, but only 15% of the art was by local artists. 75% came from Arizona, California, Montana, Washington, South Dakota and other parts of Oregon. The show included much more than painting and sculpture; bonsai, fiber art, stained glass and art glass, jewelry, metal work, musical instruments, photography, pottery, and woodwork were all on display. At the Demonstration Tent visitors learned the basics of painting, bonsai, flower pressing, pottery, stained glass, and other arts. The Chesto Community Library offered a Children's Art Corner. The Festival is FREE to the public, including parking and entertainment - and is provided by a volunteer, nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the arts in the Brookings-Harbor area.
